The Largest Freshwater Lake in Croatia

The nature park covers an area of ​​52 square kilometers, and the lake itself covers 30 square kilometers in the area of ​​Northern Dalmatia between Pakoštane and Pirovac. It is also the largest natural lake in all of Croatia.

In one area of ​​the northwestern part of Lake Vrana, a Special Ornithological Reserve was declared in 1983. In other words, it is an area of ​​great biodiversity and exceptional scientific and ecological value. The reserve is on the list of important ornithological areas in Europe (Important Bird Areas in Europe).

Perfect for Nature and History Lovers

Around the lake, there is a 40 kilometers long bike path. The lake is surrounded by a pine forest, and is a perfect place for lovers of fishing, bird watching, cycling and walking along the coast.

The expanses of the Vrana Lake Nature Park will delight those who love outdoor activities, as well as nature lovers. Lake Vrana is home to 11 species of endangered bird species - of which 4 species of birds are endangered at the European level, and seven species at the national level.

Also, this area is the nesting site of the largest population of the Little Crow in Croatia and the only nesting place in the coastal part of Croatia for the Danguba Heron, Great White Egret, Little White Egret and Little Black Egret.

Apart from being especially rich in flora and fauna, Vrana Lake also has great historical significance. The area of a beautiful nature park hides many archaeological and historical finds.
